In 1998, the UK’s Granada TV debuted a series called Cold Feet, based on the concept of a UK Thirtysomething, only funnier. It was a sophisticated, clever and funny dramedy that connected with audiences in a big way without going all schmaltzy or insulting the intelligence of the audience. One year later, an almost identical show (with different character names and title) debuted from the UK’s Carlton Television. This one was called Big Bad World. It was a sophisticated, clever and funny dramedy but it was a blatant rip-off of that earlier sophisticated, clever and funny dramedy and that doomed it to be ridiculed and eventually booted from screens after a season.
