With big wide eyes and bobbed ginger hair, England’s Anna Massey definitely stood out. As the daughter of actress Adrianne Allen and actor Raymond Massey, the appealing ingénue followed in her parents’ footsteps onto the footlights. After homing her craft on stage, Anna parlayed her talents to TV. From her debut in the police procedural Gideon’s Day (1958) to her amusing turn in the sitcom The Robinsons (2005), she became a boob tube fave! In fact, Anna won a BAFTA for her performance in the televised version of the novel Hotel du Lac (1986). The busy Brit could typically be seen in small screen costume dramas adapted from the classics: David Copperfield (1969), The Mayor of Casterbridge (1978), Mansfield Park (1983), A Tale of Two Cities (1989), Oliver Twist (2007), and Tess of the D’Urbervilles (2008). Anna also appeared in many movies, such as the psychological thrillers Peeping Tom (1960), Bunny Lake Is Missing (1965), The Looking Glass War (1970), Sweet Angel Mine (1996), The Machinist (2004), and Frenzy (1972). Directed by Alfred Hitchcock, the latter flick features Jon Finch, Barbara Leigh-Hunt, and Anna’s skintastic body double!
