Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Beverly Lunsford made her way up north to Broadway, where her first acting gig took place in a 1957 production of The Rope Dancers with Art Carney (better known for his Honeymooners role than for dramatic acting). From there, the blonde sweetheart cobbled together a career that took her all the way to 1969, and the age of 24. As a kid, she appeared in 1955 episodes of the TV series The World of Mr. Sweeney, Mr. Citizen and The Way of the World in 1955, Robert Montgomery Presents in 1956, and The United States Steel Hour in 1955, 1958, and 1960—a program that televised live plays. She grabbed the role of Marilyn Winters in the series version of National Velvet from 1960-1961, and got a little annoying in Leave It to Beaver, playing the character of Shirley Fletcher for two episodes in 1962. Beverly got a star turn in a major role as Ella McDaniel in the movie The Intruder (1962), alongside a very young William Shatner, and directed by Roger Corman, famous for writing, directing, and acting in a host of popular flicks. To celebrate her entry into adulthood at the age of 18, she chose the role of Patsy Townsend in the horror movie The Crawling Hand (1963), about the hand of a dead astronaut that emerges from a grave intent on strangling everyone. Her truly grown-up role, though, was playing Jennie Peckingpaw in the drama Jennie: Wife/Child(1968). While the movie didn’t win any prizes—the directors even went uncredited, if that tells you anything—it did feature Bev’s perky pair in various scenarios, and showed her skinny-dipping in a creek. It was her last movie before she retired from acting. Beverly passed away in May 2019 in Canton, Georgia, at the age of 74.
