A brassy, sassy Scottish lassie, Glasgow's Kelly MacDonald aroused everyone with her very first film role in the tantalizing, trend-setting Trainspotting (1996). As heroin addict Ewan McGregor's love interest, Kelly kicked audiences in the head with her skintastic enthusiasm during a wild-and-flailing, post-nightclubbing sex scene set to Blondie's '80s dancehall standard "Atomic." It's to McGregor's--and the audience's--shock when it's discovered the next morning that Kelly's character is a lustful, Lolita-esque schoolgirl when she comes to breakfast in her catholic school outfit. Her career firmly established, Kelly then appeared immediately, if not skin-worthily, in such projects as Cousin Bette (1998), Splendor (1999), and The Loss of Sexual Innocence (1999). In 2000, Kelly starred in Some Voices alongside pre-Bond Daniel Craig, who likely had a pre-boner while sharing a bath with a topless Kelly. Daniel deserves mad props for keeping his little agent a secret. Later, in The Girl in the Cafe (2005), Kelly stirred our coffee with another prolonged look at her dairy creamers. There was not even a hint of nudity when she traded her Scottish brogue for a Texas drawl in the gritty Oscar-winning crime drama No Country for Old Men (2007), but we were transfixed all the same. High-profile but nudity-free roles followed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 (2011), Anna Karenina (2012), T2 Trainspotting (2017), and TV's Black Mirror. In Dirt Music (2020), Kelly's Scottish highlands made their fourth cinematic appearance. Her lowlands made a long-awaited appearance as well.
