The daughter of actress Alfreda Masters and Egyptologist Dr. Richard King, Kent was born in Los Angeles and would stick around to study Cinema and Television at the University of Southern California before embarking on a career in Hollywood. Kent is most known for her work in soap operas - she played Julie Williams for three years on Knots Landing, had a short stint on The Young and the Restless in 2000, and spent seventy episodes playing Dr. Lainey Winters on General Hospital from 2005 to 2010 (and thirteen playing her on General Hospital: Night Shift in 2007). Kent’s made a few appearances on the big screen as well, notably 2003’s straight-to-video sex comedy Malibooty!
