Rutanya Alda has come a long way in her life — and we’ve come while watching her strip onscreen! Born in German-occupied Latvia, Rutanya relocated with her family to the U.S. in pursuit of the American Dream. With an acting career spanning 50+ years, it’s clear Ms. Alda achieved her goal. As an ingénue, she first stole moviegoers’ heart-ons per the barely-there brassiere she wore in Brian De Palma’s Greetings (1968). The pretty performer then popped up in 1970’s Hi, Mom! (a.k.a. Confessions of a Peeping John). Fans said hello to her bare breasts in Robert Altman’s The Long Goodbye (1973). And as critics stood up and took notice, fans’ pants stood up per her titillating turn in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid (1973). As a topless prostitute, the skintastic starlet made the Western’s stars James Coburn and Kris Kristofferson buck their broncos. If that’s not arousing enough, she corralled a bit of bush for the dudes. Even though Rutanya kept her clothes on, she was dear in The Deer Hunter (1978), hot stuff in The Stuff (1985), and quite a ride in Last Exit to Brooklyn (1989). The busy brunette showed off her sense of humor in the comedies The Ref (1994) and Wirey Spindell (2000). But not before she scored Golden Raspberry noms for her performances in Mommie Dearest (1982) and Amityville II: The Possession (1983). Yet we would rather remamber Rutanya for her gritty filmwork (The Panic in Needle Park) and soapy TV (Santa Barbara). What a resumé!
