Though born in Kolkata, Tillotama grew up all over India thanks to her dad’s service in the Indian Air Force. After attending Lady Shru Ram College and performing with the Asmita Theatre, she traveled abroad to the US to get her masters in educational theatre from New York University, but she managed to make her feature film debut in between when she was cast in acclaimed director Mira Nair’s 2001 rom-com Monsoon Wedding.
