A woman searching for her missing sister discovers that the girl’s gruesome fate might soon befall her in the nightmarish Spanish horror thriller Una Vela para el diablo (1970). Judy Geeson stars as Laura Barkley, the worried heroine who tracks her sibling to a hostel run by devoutly religious sisters (Aurora Bautista and Esperanza Roy). Barkley’s worst suspicions are confirmed when the women make it apparent that they’ve got a thirst for blood and it hasn’t yet been quenched. Eugenio Martín’s thriller is standard fare, but Roy and Bautista give a twist to the typical psycho villain. It’s apparent we’re not dealing with Norman Bates when Roy lifts her shirt to show off her mammoth jugs.
