Friendship is one of the basic human relationships, next only to family in primacy, and its intricacies, rewards, and disappointments make for the drama and sentiment of Four Friends (1981). Longtime master craftsman Arthur Penn directed this heartfelt chronicle of unconditional love overcoming conditional affection.
