Wei (Joyena Sun) grew up in China with her scientist father, Liu (Sam Wang), watching him work on a skin graft solution to cover up their shared face birthmarks. But testing the procedure on himself ends in tragedy and Wei takes off to Auckland to attend college while living with her Aunty Ling (Xiao Hu) and cousin Angela (Jess Hong). Having been born and raised in New Zealand, Angela has little to nothing in common with her Chinese cousin and would rather spend her time with her clique of snobby friends, including Jasmine (Sepi To’a) and Eve (Eden Hart). No matter, because Wei would rather continue her father’s work, which she does until the credit is stolen out from under her by a professor named Dr. Paul (Jared Turner). To add to his character’s unsavoriness, he’s also having an affair with Eve, his student.
