La galette du roi (1986) is a French comedy about greed and royal matrimony, in which Pauline Lafont plays a princess. This is why we go to the movies. Pauline is a blonde beauty, one we fantasize about taking to bed, and not that we think they’ll be much sleeping involved, but sadly know that the chances of that happening are rare. Then there’s celluloid, or now digital, and a whole nude world is opened up for us. We get to see pretty Pauline in bed, albeit with her lover, but he’s ignoring her. We’re not. Our eyes are on her plumb bosom and our hand is in our pants, pumping up the action. It may be as close as we’ll ever get to this beauty, but it feels too good to be wrong.
