Madame Satã (2002) tells the story of real-life Rio De Janeiro freak João Francisco Dos Santo. He’s a Brazilian folk hero of the ’30s, a thief, transvestite hustler, and family man. He gets into the family way thanks to the open-legged invitation of Marcelia Cartaxo, who sports such gravity-defying hooters that even the gayest blade would spring erect for her charms. Not that Dos Santo isn’t aware of the female allure, as he spends the movie harboring an obsessive attraction to the topless ebony performer Josephine Baker. There must be something in the water of South America that creates such a carnival atmosphere.
