Aspiring bodybuilder Killian Maddox (Jonathan Majors) spends his days working at the local grocery store, crushing on his coworker Jessie (Haley Bennett), and caring for his ailing grandfather William Lattimore (Harrison Page), all while dreaming of being as famous as his hero, Brad Vanderhorn (played by real-life bodybuilder Mike O’Hearn), who was crowned Mr. Olympia in 1993. But all the pressures of his home and work lives combined with the the self-imposed pressure of years of strenuous training, rigid diet, steroid use, and less-than-successful competition have given Killian some extreme anger issues that he now has to try to reign in with court-mandated therapy sessions. Even with therapy, as he becomes more and more fixated on achieving his bodybuilding goals, Killian becomes less and less strong mentally. The biggest indicator that he isn’t doing too well? He seems confused when Taylour Paige unhooks her bra and invites him to join her in bed! There’s a long scene in a motel where Taylour as a sex worker tries to turn him on by flashing her bare breasts and some bethonged booty cheek but he can’t stop making it awkward and then halts things altogether.
