Mountains of the Moon (1990) tells the story of Sir Richard Francis Burton and Lieutenant John Hanning Speke as they search out the source of the Nile in the name of Queen Victoria's British Empire. Few are aware of this Burton, an historical figure, who was an explorer, scholar and translator of some of the world's most erotic literature, such as The Karma Sutra, Arabian Nights and The Perfume Garden.
