What’s a sequel to do when it must be measured against one of the world’s most successful goofball exploitations of puerile prurience since the invention of film? In the case of Porky’s II: The Next Day (1983), the followup gets half serious. Picking up where the low-brow carnage of the original Porky’s (1981) left off, The Next Day returns to the campus of Angel Beach High School, where half the film concentrates on returning cast members playing raucous and raunchy practical jokes on one another. On a mature note, the balance of the movie chronicles the undoing of a scurvy politician and pervy preacher who attempt to censor the students’ production of a Shakespeare play. Porky’s II: The Next Day is mindless humor that gives its audience something to think about.
