Loosely based on the 1967 Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (1978) stars Peter Frampton as Billy Shears, the grandson of the great Mr. Pepper himself. He and his buds The Bee Gees have hit it big on dastardly Donald Malfeasance's record label, but now the bad guys—including Mean Mr. Mustard (Frankie Howard)—are out to steal their magical musical instruments and destroy the whimsical world of Heartland, USA. Got that? Good! And if you don't, don't worry—the plot of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is secondary to the Beatles covers. Catch Coppersmith performing "Come Together," Earth Wind & Fire doing "Got To Get You into My Life," Steve Martin covering "Maxwell's Silver Hammer," and none other than George Burns singing a song that may or may not be about heroin, "Fixing a Hole."
