Based on the real North Carolina murders of Dan Clinton, Tarnished Notes subs in different names for the Baptist couple and the lover they both took. In the film version of the events, it's Jim Daniels who is a Baptist music director, and his wife Judith (Cari Moscow) is an organ player at the church. When the two take in the young and lost Kyle, they both start secret affairs with him and Jim grows increasingly hostile toward his wife. When Kyle and Judith plot and carry out Jim's murder, things in this small town get extra nasty.
