Cress Williams plays Marshall Shepherd, a small town Baptist pastor raising his son Samuel (Marcus Gladney Jr.) on his own since his wife was murdered five years ago. The man who killed her is Troy Parker Jr (Kellan Lutz) and he’s just been released from prison, but his ex-con status makes it hard for him to find work, so the very faithful and forgiving Marshall gives him a job at his church, Hope International. Samuel is a smart kid who’s just been granted a free ride to Brown University, but he can’t wrap his head around his dad’s forgiving of Troy and it causes a huge rift in their relationship. Meanwhile, in the final role before her passing, Anne Heche is Maureen, the town sheriff who is trying to determine if the timing of Troy’s release connects him to a more recent murder.
