Le cercle rouge (1970) is one of the best crime dramas, and it comes from France, a play you don’t think of for noir coolness. The film follows a cool, aristocratic thief who is released from prison the same day that a murderer escapes from a cat-loving policeman. It’s a powerful look at the French underworld, and an even more powerful look at Anna Douking in one of her first and finest performances. That’s because she is naked, and we get to see her perfect T&A. She did go on to appear in other provocative titles, such as Sex Is My Game (1971), Le Sex Shop (1972) and Perversions (1976), but nothing as cool.
