Created by Dan Levy (Schitt’s Creek) and Rachel Sennott (I Love LA), this Netflix crime comedy starts out with Linda (Laurie Metcalf) bemoaning the task of planning a birthday party for her mother, who is on death’s door. She’s also in the middle of a mayoral campaign, aided by her golden child daughter Natalie (Abby Quinn), while her other children, Morgan (Taylor Ortega) and Nicky (Levy) appear to be struggling with their own problems - Morgan is a failed New York actress-turned-public school teacher while Nicky is a pastor a local church who can’t really live his gay lifestyle to its fullest. When Linda suggests they get their Nonna a necklace for her birthday, the two end up at a cheap trinket store where Morgan gets into a verbal altercation with Yusuf (Boran Kuzum), who is manning the register. When they arrive back at the hospital, Nonna has just died but Morgan presents her with a necklace she clearly stole from the store and Linda has them put it on the body. That night, Yusuf shows up at Nicky’s door demanding the necklace, follows him to family dinner night, and then threatens Morgan with a gun. With Nonna ready to be buried, they attempt to retrieve the necklace but fail before she’s put in the ground, pissing Yusuf off, and that is how the two unassuming siblings get embroiled in the world of organized crime. At the same time, Morgan gets propsed to by her longtime boyfriend Max (Jack Innamen), but things are rocky between them, and at one point Linda gives Morgan some relationship advice while changing tops and we get a lengthy look at Laurie in her bra. Nice. And as with any other organized crime series, there’s your typical scene in a strip club, where Shanell Brooks shows off her dance moves and some colossal cleavage. This aptly titled series is full of big mistakes, but watching Shanell shimmy isn’t one of them!
