Madeleine Lebeau is a French actress who fled Paris when the Nazis were on the march, and after a bit of a journey, landed safely in the United States. Thank God for that, because this beauty was able to parley her pretty face into Hollywood stardom, landing first in Hold Back the Dawn (1941). But everyone will remember her best from Casablanca (1942), where she plays Rick’s jilted mistress, and looks good in a midriff-bearing top that’s also cut seductively low for the times. After that iconic role she appeared in a couple other American movies, such as Paris After Dark (1943), but after the war she returned to France and worked steadily there in film.
