R.I.P. Mary Beth Hurt

After battling Alzheimer’s for just over ten years, actress Mary Beth Hurt passed away at the age of 79. The three-time Tony nominee had a decades-long career on both stage and screen, and you’ve no doubt seen her work even if you don’t recognize the name.

Born Mary Beth Supinger in Marshalltown, Iowa, Mary Beth would go on to marry actor William Hurt but they divorced in 1982, after which she married filmmaker Paul Schrader. She made her screen debut in the mid 1970s, and would go on to appear in many memorable films, including The World According to Garp (1982), D.A.R.Y.L. (1985), The Age of Innocence (1993), Six Degrees of Separation (1993), The Exorcism of Emily Rose (2005), and Young Adult (2011).

R.I.P. Mary Beth Hurt

****

Mary Beth’s consistent work made her a familiar face throughout the world of film and television, but it seemed her face would be all we’d see… that is, until 2006, a good thirty years into her acting career, when she decided to to deliver her one and only nude scene.

In the 2006 thriller The Dead Girl, an assuming mystery that boasts a surprisingly stacked cast, Mary Beth starts stripping down around the fifty-five minute mark and ends up topless, baring her breasts for the first and only time while tossing her clothes into a fire.

It takes guts to go nude, but even more so to do it at age sixty! We’ll be forever grateful she did, even for just a brief moment, because just like those flames, Mary Beth Hurt was hot!
