Every so often a nude scene gets paired with a song that, for better or worse, ends up making it that much more memorable, and this week we’re gearing up for the 25th anniversary of an Oscar winner with a look at its breast nude scene. Hit the road with Stillwater and Kate Hudson’s headlights in our look back at Cameron Crowe’s masterpiece Almost Famous!
Based on Crowe’s own experience as a teen writer for Rolling Stone magazine, this 2000 coming-of-age drama tells the story of William Miller (Patrick Fugit), a fifteen-year-old who gets the chance to follow fictional 70s band Stillwater on tour and write an article about them. It won the Academy Award in 2001 for Best Screenplay and was nominated for a few others, including a Best Supporting Actress nod for up-and-coming nepo babe Kate Hudson.

She plays Penny Lane, one of the band’s ride-or-die fans who is based on real-life groupies like Pennie Ann Trumbull and Pamela Des Barres. At about an hour and thirty-six minutes into the film, Kate and costar Anna Paquin are seen partying with Billy Crudup and company in a hotel room and Kate’s bare boobs are caught on camera as she dances around in just a coat and undies.

In addition to a few original songs written for Stillwater by Crowe and his wife, Heart’s Nancy Wilson, the soundtrack is filled with classic bangers to capture the era and this scene is no exception. Though the band’s antics are mostly based on stories about Led Zeppelin (whose song “That’s the Way” appears on the soundtrack), at this point Kate’s cans are serenaded by David Bowie doing a live cover the Velvet Underground’s “I’m Waiting For the Man.”
