For October, I want to highlight underrated horror movies with skintastic nudity. I am watching so many horror movies this month, so I am thrilled to share these skintastic gems with you. Today's underrated horror movie is a recent film that was the first horror film to win Sundance's Grand Jury Prize. Today's film is the 2022 movie Nanny.
Nanny was a highly anticipated film. Written and directed by Nikyatu Jusu, this script first garnered attention for being included on The Blacklist, an annual list of the best unproduced screenplays of the year. That is a huge honor in the screenwriting world and a lot of those scripts end up getting made. After that recognition, she was able to develop it into a feature film that she directed. It earned further acclaim at Sundance and made horror movie history. And the best part? There's nudity!
This film stars the drop-dead gorgeous Anna Diop as a Senegalese woman working as a nanny in New York City. She is trying to save enough money to bring her son to America to join her, so it's interesting to watch her take care of someone else's kid when the audience knows how much she misses her own child.
She works for a wealthy yuppie couple on the Upper East Side. The little girl she watches is an angel, but the girl's parents are weird. Michelle Monaghan stars as the wealthy white mom employing the nanny. You may remember Michelle from the most recent season of The White Lotus. In this film, she plays a character not too dissimilar from her White Lotus character. She cares about what people think of her, she is vain, she is wealthy, and she is trying to be chill while she appears to be screaming inside. We see her deal with her stress by sitting naked in the shower.
Not only is her job weird, but she is also plagued by visions of spiders and dangers in the water. These things come from African folklore and are trying to warn her of impending doom. When we aren't watching for dangers ahead, we get to see Anna's headlights and her round rump when she lies on her side in the bathtub.
We also get to watch her make love to the family's doorman. They have a cute romance that blossoms into this steamy bedroom scene in which she straddles him and lets him inside of her. Her door is open for that man!
The film is exciting and filled with dread. It is also a very refreshing look at what it is like to be a domestic worker from the perspective of one. From her perspective, everything seems either scary or ridiculous. It's a fascinating watch for that reason! It also helps that Anna Diop is beautiful. She is a talented actress with charming looks who deserves to be captured on camera for years to come.
