Lucy (Johnny Sequoyah) has been away at college, but she’s returning to her family’s sprawling mansion in the mountains of Hawaii with friends Kate (Victoria Wyant) and Hannah (Jessica Alexander) in tow. She’s hoping to spend time with her successful novelist father Adam (Troy Kotsur) and especially her younger sister Erin (Gia Hunter), as they are still recovering from losing their mom, who was a famous ecologist, to cancer. It’s because of their late mother that the family has an unusual pet: a chimp named Ben (played via CGI by movement specialist Miguel Torres Umba). Ben has always been well-trained and docile, communicating through sign language (like Adam, who is deaf) and a computer tablet. But after Adam leaves the kids behind to attend a book-signing, Ben gets bitten by a rabid mongoose and the disease turns him into a vicious monster ready to attack. But hey, at least the youngsters are able to enjoy some fun pool time before their vacay turns into a desperate fight for survival. And pools mean swimsuits, so we get lots of nice looks at Jessica in a string bikini. Watching her splash around barely dressed will bring up all sorts of primal urges!
