Z (Breton Lalama, who also co-wrote the film) is a transmasculine musical theatre actor in Toronto who is in the process of transitioning. He’s gotten the chance to audition for a role in Les Miserables on Broadway, but the hormones he’s taking are wreaking havoc on his voice, causing it to crack several times. Convinced that his New York dreams are no longer viable, he lets his girlfriend Dani (Khadijah Roberts-Abdullah) go off to the Big Apple without him and gets a job bartending, which is how he meets Santi (Xavier Lopez), a fellow trans man. With the support of someone who really understands what he’s going through, Z starts taking lessons from a vocal coach named Shelly (Ali Garrison) and begins tap back into his artistic passion. Nudecomer Breton is seen in various states of undress, and though he spends most of the movie with his chest taped down, there are a few brief moments where we get a peek at the peaks he’s trying to hide, plus a few flashes of bare ass for good measure. Katharine King also shows up for a steamy sex scene but keeps covered. Still, Really Happy Someday will make you just that!
