The Elective Affinities (1996)

The nineteenth-century period piece The Elective Affinities (1996), concerns Edoardo and Carlotta, two old lovers who conquer their past and find domestic bliss in the Tuscan countryside. Their rural idyll is interrupted by the arrival of Ottone, Edoardo's friend, and Ottilia, Carlotta's goddaughter. The resulting ménage-à-quatre threatens to destroy the lives of everyone involved.
